(sgt. - 2018 - 2020)
sgt. started off life as a group project; a publication that explored identity and place in university. we made this into a limited run series of zines, as well as it being available online.
more detail on this can be found at https://asgtmagazine.wordpress.com
(continuation)
following this, i decided to expand the sgt. project alone the next year into a web platform and application.
i hope to carry this project on - in some form - in the future, as i believe i set a strong foundation with the work so far.
this is what i had to say about the project, taken from the original submission:
"i have decided to stick with my sgt. hybrid concept. this is simply due to the scope and passion i have for it, as well as the solid foundation i already have established in the form of the magazine, youtube channel and instagram account. when originally working on the project with my group, i stated an interest in “[taking] the interview concept, lay it out across the whole of the uk, and intersperse the interviews with b-roll and footage of those interviewed and the country or more specific footage to create emotion and a deeper message, or even something more dramatic on the whole.”
in a sense, this aspiration carries across to what i am trying to achieve with the digitisation and further development of sgt., albeit in a more refined manner than just video interviews. instead of that being the case, and having to film people individually across the country, i thought more about a self-submission service online where content (including text, images, and artwork) could be sent, reviewed, and compiled into ‘something more dramatic’ that effectively connects people from around the world on similar themes. of course, this is just a place i intend the platform to end up, as i expect the gradual evolution of the site to take quite a few steps before then; initially appearing as a portfolio site, as it gains traction and more content is created, it can slowly build to opening up to user interaction more and more until the point of submissions being allowed. there would definitely have to be some kind of control on this, particularly to do with the amount of content let through, which could involve some sort of limited-participation system or competition. this can then be explored dynamically further as sgt. becomes more of a web platform and potentially an app, and more of something to interact and work with rather than just observe."
below, you can see my initial screen designs based on sketches and feedback i'd worked through, as well as a colour palette. following that, i visualised this in wix, and created icons for the website and app. the adobe xd download file can also be found there.
